i’ve been a staunch doubter of humanoid robot integration into the blue collar workforce occurring in the near future due to the near-infinite number of variables and edge cases that the robot would encounter which it’s ai hadn’t been trained for. in my mind, only a robot with an ai capable of at least rudimentary thinking/cognition would be able to operate in real-world work and/or home environments because it would have to be able to “think” about unexpected obstacles, whether physical or cognitive. i believe our ai technology just isn’t at the point to achieve that.
i want the technology to be at that point and anxiously await it reaching it, but until i see a robot performing physical labor in an environment that wasn’t specifically designed around the robots operating capabilities, and it is doing so as or more capably than a human, that “moment” i feel many are anticipating when the humanoid revolution of blue collar work finally arrives and the path to abundance for all becomes tangible for those not following the daily developments of the technology, has still yet to arrive.
based on what i had learned about the stages the technology is currently in, i had believed the point of mass blue collar integration was five years out at the soonest, and likely further. however, based on what i’ve been learning in the last week, it seems i underestimated how soon the exponential improvement curve of this tech would begin, and i’m beginning to doubt conservatism of my timeline assumption.
My guess is that most of us are underestimating the exponential improvement curve. We just can't think in exponentials. Dr AWG helps bring it into focus. So just to recap -
Hyundai is building a major AI-robotics center.
They’re investing $6.3 billion in a facility that includes:
50,000 GPUs (huge computing power),
a factory where robots are capable of producing 30,000 robots per year,
and its own hydrogen power plant.
This is an example of a car company transforming itself into a robotics empire.
I too am a contemplative, and I feel that same weekly refactoring of my worldview. It is a strange place to stand, reading about everything that is shifting while the world around me seems to meander on in near oblivion. I keep sensing there will be a moment when we all see it at once. Grateful to be in the loop as much as I am. Thank you Dr. AWG!
Thank you for your response and for succinctly naming that existential feeling of bifurcation-by-speed going on. Discernment is Timeless. Speed, taken to its extreme, for its own sake, is a blind guide.
Still ANOTHER example of a great Innermost Loop daily update. AGW. we saw on the Moonshots pod where you made it abundantly clear that you do NOT use AI to write this, and that this is an all human endeavor. Amazing. Don't let Claw take over!! Continue to do it yourself.
And, yes, the Iran war is in no small measure a conflict with China.
Thank you Alex. Between this and the Moonshots podcast, I maintain a status of "well ahead" of both colleagues and friends when it comes to AI and the adoption curve that seems so ridiculous! And it still feels like it's just the beginning!!
Hi Alex, just started following you and addicted to the Moonshots pod. I’d love to suggest a topic that I believe is both timely and deeply underexplored:
Are we witnessing the opening moves of a resource war fought not over oil itself, but over who controls the compute needed to win the AI era — with fossil fuel supply chains to China as the pressure point, and robotics scalability as the ultimate geopolitical wildcard? Also, what shall be the role of fossil fuels in the singularity and in a world of abundance?
Thank you, Alex for all the time and energy you put into this. I never miss a day.
You're welcome!
I read and listen to this and can’t believe how you packed all that is happening in such a smart, short summary! Thank you
You're welcome!
Your work is an important public service on the scope, breadth, and speed of AI. Thank you.
You're welcome!
« If the cloud has become the fog of war ».
Let’s hope that the Sun behind the Cloud will pierce for peace :- )
Without the sun there is only darkness.
thank you dr. alex! ? there isn't by chance a dictioary so i can understand you better?
LLM, paragraph by paragraph. Highly recommended.

Thank you Alex. Even as a time-rich contemplative, I find myself refactoring my worldview weekly.

The "Boston Dynamics' Atlas" link in paragraph 6 gets a 404 error.
Total fan-girl. Kudos AWG 👏
Metatrends is fantastic but Peter was right; this takes it to another level. Thank you, Dr Wissner-Gross. I'll never miss an article.

I've enjoyed your input on Moonshots, going to make time for this too. Bandwidth and time limited, dang meatsack.
Outstanding post. Thank you.
