Thank you Alex for the double treat, the second one seems to be the extension of the first.

Alex,

Thank you for another thought-provoking essay. I think Redwood represents something even larger than an advance in chip design.

The line that stayed with me was, "The design team becomes a specification."

It seems to describe a pattern we've been watching across AI. The human contribution keeps moving upstream. We move from implementation to architecture, from architecture to intent, from intent to purpose.

That has me wondering whether the next great bottleneck is no longer engineering but something more fundamentally human.

I've been writing a book with the working title The Word Became Human. My central thought is that AI increasingly absorbs what we might call "word"—knowledge, language, design, optimization, even now chip architecture—while the uniquely human vocation shifts toward embodiment: wisdom, relationship, love, judgment, and the ability to decide what is worth building in the first place.

Your article strengthened that intuition.

One question I'd be curious to hear your thoughts on:

If AI eventually removes most of the cost of designing and building intelligence, what do you think becomes humanity's scarce resource? What becomes the new bottleneck?

Thank you for continuing to write these essays. They consistently push me to think beyond the technology itself and ask what kind of civilization we are becoming.

Warm regards,

Will Crist
